As we do almost every July, the CLC would like to announce some changes to our National Council.
First, we are pleased to welcome Matthias McIntire to our National Council. Currently based in Nova Scotia, Matthias will join as our Atlantic Region Representative, as well as a member of our Advocacy and Awards and Membership committees. Matthias will be taking over in all three roles from Sasha Leger, who stepped down from Council as of July 1, 2024. We would like to thank Sasha for his service over the past year.
Second, after decades of service to the CLC, Rodney Sharman is stepping down from Council. Rodney first joined in the 1980s, serving as Secretary from 1989 – 1992, and as President of the CLC from 1993 – 1998. He then re-joined Council in the 2016 to help with the wildly successful 2017 ISCM World New Music Days Festival in Vancouver. Since then, he has served as President of the ISCM Canadian Section. His knowledge, experience, and wisdom have been invaluable assets to the CLC and have helped the League grow into what it has become today. On behalf of all Canadian composers, we would like to thank Rodney for his service to our community.
“The CLC succeeds because of the hard work and sacrifice of our council members”, says current CLC President, Tyler Versluis. “Rodney’s commitment to our organisation demonstrates his deep dedication to the wellbeing and success of Canadian composers and the musical ecosystem of this country. This was also demonstrated by Sasha Leger in his brief but meaningful councilorship. I wish them both the best in their future endeavours, and welcome our new councillor, Matthias.”
