To encourage diverse membership in the Canadian League of Composers, the CLC has established four unique categories of membership. Please determine which category of membership you would like to apply for prior to submitting an application.

1. Professional Membership (voting)

For professional composers of concert music and sound art.

Dues: $60 annually

Conditions: The composer will have received at least 3 professionally-presented public performances, each by a different performer, ensemble and/or organization.

For those under 35 years of age, a prize in a composition competition recognized by the CLC Executive Council may replace 1 of the 3 required performances.

Required application materials:*

• Current Curriculum Vitae, including year of birth.
  • Please list all compositions with instrumentation, timings and, where applicable, performance information.
• Documentation of 3 professionally-presented public performances, each by 3 different performers, ensembles and/or organizations. A prize in a composition competition recognized by the CLC Executive Council may replace 1 of the 3 required performances for composers under 35 years of age.
• Letter of intent to join the CLC which notes: a) the type of membership you are applying for; b) your full contact information (full name, address, email, phone, website); and c) your year of birth.

NOTE: Scores and recordings are not required.

*EXCEPTION: Composers who are Associate Composers of the Canadian Music Centre (CMC) are exempt from the voting process and do not need to submit a CV, list of compositions, or documentation of public performances. Please only send the CLC Administrator the Email or Letter of intent to become a CLC Professional Member, with your full contact information (address, email, phone, website), your year of birth, and a note regarding your status as a CMC Associate.

2. Student Membership (non-voting)

For students preparing for a career in composition.

Dues: $20 annually

Conditions: Eligibility ends 2 years after completion of study, at which time composers are encouraged to apply for professional membership.

Required application materials:

• Proof of student status. Please include the expected date of completion for your studies.
• Letter of intent to join the CLC which notes: a) the type of membership you are applying for; b) your full contact information (full name, address, email, phone, website); and c) your year of birth.

3. Emeritus Membership (voting)

For individuals recognized and honoured by the CLC for their outstanding contribution to Canadian music creation (category A), and for composers aged 65 and over who have had a Professional Membership for a minimum of 5 years (category B).

Dues: $0 annually

Conditions: The member must be over age 65.

4. Affiliate Membership (non-voting)

For individuals or organizations who support the aims and activities of the CLC and wish to be kept informed of CLC and ISCM activities.

Dues: $20 annually

Conditions: none
